Questions

Composer

Listen!

Did you hear it?

That melody’s alive and breathes

With subtle text and poignant line

And haunting harmonies.

No!

Your face reveals it;

You haven’t heard what I feel.

What I hear as magical, alive,

Just leaves you cold as steel.

Wait!

Don’t turn away yet.

You haven’t heard the whole.

Lips, hands and heart must grasp its form

Before you feel its soul.

About New Music:
1. Was what you heard the "real" music or did the "black dots on striped paper" not get through to the performer?
2. Even when the new music was performed beautifully, were you, the listener, too busy deciphering and assimilating new music to enjoy it?
3. Does the music have to be familiar for you to love it?
